Scaffolding wheels, also called scaffold castors, turn a fixed H-frame, cuplock or aluminium tower into a movable work platform. Each castor has a spigot that slides into the bottom of the scaffold leg, a heavy-duty swivel head so the tower can be steered in any direction, and a foot-operated brake that locks it in place.

Movable scaffolding saves hours on ceiling, lighting, painting and maintenance work, because the crew rolls the tower to the next bay instead of dismantling and rebuilding it. Good castors make that safe: a firm brake, a tread that does not mark floors, and a solid mounting into the scaffold leg.

Safe use

• Lock every brake before anyone climbs the tower
• Move the tower only when nobody is on it and the platform is clear of tools
• Roll only on firm, level floors; check for holes, slopes and overhead cables
• Fit outriggers as the tower gets taller relative to its base
• Check that wheels turn freely and brakes hold before each use
